About Zeelandia International

History
Zeelandia was founded in 1900 by H.J. Doeleman, in the town of Zierikzee, Holland. H.J. Doeleman began by producing rusk jelly, an aid in baking light, crispy rusks, for master bakers. With an unflinching desire to make his products of the highest standard, the reputation of the company grew. Today, Zeelandia International now has over 2000 products in their range, all of which are designed to make the job of the baker easier, faster and more profitable, without compromising the most important ingredient of all – Quality.
H.J. Doeleman’s commitment to producing ingredients to be proud of led to him being personally granted the title of “Purveyor to the royal household” in 1925. This accolade was further enhanced in 1950, when Zeelandia was given the designation 'Koninklijke' (Royal), which we still proudly use in our name today.
Luctor et Emergo
Not only the name Zeelandia, but also the logo, is reminiscent of the company's origins in the Dutch province of Zeeland. Formed by a delta, the province's coat of arms bears its image from this, with a lion wrestling from the rippling sea. These elements are incorporated into the company logo, and the provinces motto has always been noted with high regard: “Luctor et Emergo” or “I struggle and surface.”
International Presence
The first export activities date back as far as 1923. Zeelandia and its products now span the whole globe, and cover over 60 countries. In the Netherlands alone, H.J. Doeleman’s legacy now refers to approximately 45% of the total supply of baking ingredients, and in Europe, we sell our products via subsidiaries and joint ventures in virtually all countries. Further afield from Zeeland, we work with distributors and agents, with a presence in countries from China to Brazil and Nigeria.
Zeelandia International is now one of the largest bakery ingredients manufacturers in the world. We have production sites in 14 different countries, from as far a field as Indonesia and Turkey, to the manufacture of Carlo and Ovam in the UK itself.
Yet, wherever you are in the world, Zeelandia’s company ethos remains the same. We aim to supply solutions in order to manufacture and sell bread and confectionery products as a professional, reliable, innovative and inspiring organization.
“Creating Possibilities”
Innovation is the key to Zeelandia’s strategy in any country. We are continually exploring consumer markets and pride ourselves on identifying which products the market needs, thereby creating new opportunities for our customers. This underlies our thinking of “creating possibilities” and forms the basis of our approach to developing and expanding our products, concepts and services. We are constantly working in partnership with our customers all over the world to assist them in the research, development and production of new lines and tailor made products.
