Job Description: 

Zeelandia Ltd, a leading company in the food industry, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our Maintenance and Engineering department as a Multi Skilled Service and Project Engineer.  This role is based at our Wigan site but the role will involve customer visits across the UK and Ireland.

In this role, you will be responsible for providing technical support and expertise in the maintenance and repair of our production equipment. You will also play a key role in the planning and execution of engineering projects to improve our manufacturing processes.


This role benefits from a car allowance scheme.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performing routine maintenance and repairs on production equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
  • Diagnosing and troubleshooting equipment issues, and implementing effective solutions to prevent future problems.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify areas for process improvement and implementing engineering projects to enhance efficiency and productivity.
  • Ensuring compliance with safety regulations and company policies during all maintenance and project activities.
  • Maintaining accurate documentation of maintenance activities, including work orders, equipment logs, and inventory records.
  • Providing training and guidance to junior technicians to develop their technical skills and knowledge.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a similar role, preferably in the food industry.
  • Strong technical knowledge and skills in mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to work on-call and during weekends or holidays, if required.

We are looking for experienced candidates that enjoy meeting customer needs and the variation of working on site and when required at customers sites.

You are/Have

  • Ideally apprentice trained within a food manufacturing or field service environment.
  • Currently working in a bakery or FMCG food environment or currently working as a field service engineer within a food manufacturing background
  • Multiskilled, both electrical and mechanical skill set, PLC skills a distinct advantage.
  • Pneumatic control knowledge essential.
  • 3d CAD drawing experience an advantage.
  • Excellent fault-finding skills with a logical thought process.
  • The ability to work independently and make informed decisions.
  • Be highly organised and self-motivated.
  • Have great social skills to build customer relations
  • Be able to work alone or in a small team.
  • Be flexible to the working week with the ability to change plans to meet customer requirements.
  • Hold a current UK passport for regular Ireland trips and occasional travel abroad for company training etc.
  • Hold a full UK driving licence

Job requirements

  • Ensure that our equipment is performing at its best and is exceeding the customers’ expectations.
  • Maintain and develop the relationships at our customer sites and deliver a high level of customer service.
  • Proactive machine maintenance in accordance with the PPM schedule to plant, machinery, and equipment to prevent unplanned downtime. PPM will include working on both electrical and mechanical systems if competent to do so.
  • Proactively identify areas of improvement, liaise with the engineering team to implement those improvements where possible.
  • Look at future design and development of equipment, investigate constant improvement ideas.
  • Working independently or as a team to ensure tasks are undertaken as quickly and efficiently as possible.
  • Ensure planned maintenance tasks are carried out in line with the plan, safely, cost effectively and to agreed standards and timescales, without compromising food safety or health & safety requirements.
  • Liaising with all internal departments in order to ensure any potential issues / factors affecting the business are communicated in a timely manner and escalated appropriately.

Salary

£33,000 - £34-000 per year
