Zeelandia UK Limited welcomes local Colchester MP Pamela Cox to come explore the world of bakery
Zeelandia UK Limited, a leading supplier to the UK bakery ingredients sector, welcomed Pam Cox, MP for Colchester, to learn more about their business, their work within the local community and of course to taste some of their delicious products.
The visit offered an opportunity to showcase the company’s ongoing commitment to community engagement, staff wellbeing, and innovation—while also addressing the pressing challenges facing mid-sized businesses in the food manufacturing industry, and discussion on the role of bakery treats in the overall diet and considerations for heath focused product development.
The team shared how community work with Marketfield College and The Gilberd School involved providing mock interviews, offering work experience placements, and supporting students with special educational needs to gain hands-on industry insights from a series of in-bakery workshops.
Pam also learnt about the company’s work with RAMA (Refugee, Asylum Seeker & Migrant Action), and a new initiative looking at how the company could support ex-offenders back into the workforce at their main manufacturing plant near Wigan.
Finally, the presentation included some videos from Ukraine demonstrating Zeelandia UK's involvement in the Bake4Ukraine initiative—a project designed to support the bakeries damaged during the war. Zeelandia UK has helped supply over 10 truckloads of machinery and equipment donated by UK bakery businesses including Tesco UK – to those that need it most.
Pam was then taken on a tour of the site, meeting members of the Zeelandia team and shown a selection of their product portfolio used in the creation of bread, cake and pastry treats for both well-known bakery brands and own label products sold through the multiple groceries.
“We were delighted to welcome Pam to Zeelandia UK to explore our BRC AA accredited production site in Colchester,” said David Amos, Managing Director of Zeelandia UK.
“As a leading ingredients provider, It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase both local and international initiatives that are driving impact in our communities, while highlighting our commitment to workforce and industry innovation.”
Pam Cox MP for Colchester said, “It was a real pleasure to visit Zeelandia UK and see first-hand the incredible work being done right here in Colchester. From supporting young people with special educational needs to helping refugees and ex-offenders into employment, Zeelandia is showing how businesses can be a real force for good in our communities. Their commitment to innovation, wellbeing, and social responsibility is something to be proud of.
“I was particularly impressed by their partnerships with local schools and colleges, which are giving students valuable insights into the world of work and helping to build confidence and skills for the future. Zeelandia’s efforts to support those facing barriers to employment are a powerful example of how industry can lead with compassion and purpose.”
